Changing School : Moving From Primary To High school In New School - My Experience

I studied from first standard to seventh in a small school. The school was walking distance from my home and that was one of main reasons about why my parents chose that school for me.Being a small school it served around 250 students in total and seventh standard used to have very few students in it. Most students used to change the school before seventh standard. I remember when I came to seventh standard , the total number of students in my class were only 11.

As I finished my seventh standard , I had to go to new school. After looking out of various option , my parents did sent me to one of old and large schools on my city. It had first to 12th standards in it.Each standard upto 10th had three divisions in it and each divisions had around 60 students in it. From 11th divisions became 6 , two each for arts ,science and commerce. It was large school.

I remember my first day in the school. During  vacation of seventh standard I had learnt how to ride bicycle. The new school was 20 minutes run from my home on bicycle. For first day my dad had accompained me since I was not aware about the route. It was big change for me. I had hardly gone 2-3 kilometers from my locality alone and riding bicycle to new school was exciting as well as something which I had never done before.

My dad accompained me to my class , talked with class teacher and parted.First day was tough. Every one was stranger out there. Oldies were making fun of me too. I was missing comfort of seven years of old school. I was missing my old school mates. I was fearful about how new people would treat me , would they accept me and such stuffs.

Many things were new for me here. My old school didnt have single canteen while this had three. Another new thing was dress. During primary wearing shots was ok but since this was high school and students had new belief on being grown up , no body used to wear shots. Even during free dress day , pants was the norm. During those initial days ,I was ragged for wearing shots , both by boys and girls. It was one of events which left deep impact on me.That event triggered resolve of proving myself to these new people and induced hard working habit in me. I started taking studies far more seriously since that was only way I thought I would be accepted!!!!.

Slowly things started settling down. I formed new friends and gradually I became part of my new school. It was also age where hormonal changes begin to occur. I became gender consious during those times. I remember discussing girls with fellow boys. Negative aspect which came along with this new school was usage of abusive words. In my old school I dont remember hearing any of those words ,forget speaking of it. But in the new school, usage of such words was considered to be manly thing to do and I too adopted them . Luckily I didnt use them at home!!!!!. With time that special vocabulary got vanished but did take time. Second negative aspect was money management. My old school as stated above was very near to my home. I didnt used to carry money while in primary but in new school since most of students had pocket money , I too demanded and got it from my parents. I used to spent lot on my snacks and my friend's snacks. It was one of way of bribing them to befriend me. Lack of money management which I developed during those days continued in college and afterwards too.

When I look back at my experience , I believe entering high school is one of very important year of one's life. Parents have to play important role during this phase. Specially when someone is changing school , it is like changing entire world for him/her during that age. New friends can be good or not so good , new habits picked can be great or can spoil kids too. Also hormonal changes which are natural is also important yet ignored factor(by most). Many parents have important issues of their own which keeps them busy and many quiet dont understand that every kid has his/her own concerns which means world to them. It may look small concern from adult point of view but for kid they are real and important ones.Isn't it?

I enjoyed your school story. I think we all felt the same way, scared the first day, then finally joining in.

Cheers
