I used to Bunk Schools

Yesterday my neighbour was is terrible mood. He caught his daughter bunking the school and spending time with her friends watching movie in the theatre. Fortunately for him , he co incidently passed by the theatre when his daughter was coming out.

He did come to know that such bunking was at least once in month event for her. He was disappointed and angry on her 12 year old daughter.

I remembered how i used to bunk my schools that too when i was just 9 year old and in my 4th standard. I used to have trouble grasping what was taught in the school but I didn't have courage to confess that I wasn't able to understand. I used to rank among last five and I hated to study.

At home I didnt disclose my problems and didn't feel like going to schools. My school teacher was strict and had annoying way of humilating weak students. Instead of helping us in overcoming our limitations , she used to make fun of last rankers in front of whole class.

One fine day I left my home , on my way to class. Suddenly I decided , not to go to school and went to near by park . I wandered around near by area , from park to walking on road . I kept on asking about time to people and finally when there was half n hour left to the end of school , i went back home.

This became my daily routine for a month!!!!!!!!!. My mother was always occupied with household work and my dad used to be busy with his occupation. Why school was not giving homework was what made my mom start doubting but I use to handle that by lying.

One fine day I was caught by my sister and hell broke down for me. She went to school to inquire and came to know that I was absent for a month!!!!!!!!!. My dad was called to the school . My sister then took it as her duty to drop me to school.

My first day after bunking days was real hard . My school teacher called me and slapped me in front of entire class and again humilated me.

But that slap changed my life. More than regret , the humilation did hurt me. From 62nd in class of 65th , I in final exams jumped to 9th rank and from 5th , i used to be in top three.

Now when I look back about why i used to bunk?, i understand that it was not that I was not interested in studies but fear of not being able to grasp made me bunk. My teacher instead of understanding my fears and helping me was re inforcing my fears by humilating me. I felt that I was not good and she making fun of me used to reinforce my fears.

My case helped my neighbour too. When I naratted my story to the 12 year old kid , she too naratted her fear of maths and how she felt when he made her laughing stock out of her infront of whole class.

School is institute where we send kids to learn and every student needs empathetic approach to over come his/her fears and succeed.

I hope my story helps my neighbour's daughter and many others who bunk school. Face the fear and turn them to victory. Running away doesnot help..Does it?
