Social Evils In India
76I am an proud India. Proud of its rich culture and heritage. Proud of being one of oldest civilization. Proud of being born in country which has so many languages , religion , communities under same umbrella called India.
Proud of its founding fathers who made such a wonderful constitution which gives right to all its citizens to live at respectful life with dignity.
But at sametime , I an rational Indian. As rational thinking India I would like few things to change in India for betterment of India.
These are social evils and the faster it changes the better nation would become :
Dowry :
It has been around 40 years when law prohibiting dowry came into existence in India. But unfortunately the evil doesnot seem to die. Dowry deaths in India are still reported in thousands and what is more shocking is that many of such deaths are reported from family who are supposed to be educated. What I call as 'Developed Skills to earn but forgot to grow as human' class.
Have already written on dowry and wont get into much detail in this hub about it. But dowry needs to be eradicated from society and these needs major social change in how we perceive marriages in some parts of country.
Caste Divide :
For those living in urban city and wonder that caste issue is non issue today must read report published recently by an NGO on progressive state like gujarat. 93% of so called lower caste felt discrimination of basis of caste. Now one can imagine what situations might be in other parts of India ,if state which is economically , industrially developed state like gujarat has such pathetic stats.
Gender Bias :
Again whensoever there is debate on it , we always claim that status of woman in India is perfectly alright with woman getting the right kind of treatment. But unfortunately who reports states otherwise. According to who , majority of woman is subcontinent are mal nutrized. Their health concerns are often neglected.
Progress of any country is judged not just by numbers of gdp or gold reserves or missile technology but also about how woman and children are treated and nurtured. We want truely progressive India where woman are treated equally in all respects.
Crime against woman are on rise , number of woman getting married at barely 18 is half of numbers . These all has to be changed.
It is well published report which states that in last 20 years , 2 million female fetus were killed!!!!!!!. It shame that in country where woman power is worshipped in name of paravati and our icons include laxmi bai such things fail to get eradicated.
Honour Killing :
Well though limited to very few parts of India , honour killing still takes lives of hundred of couple every year. It good to know that government of India is coming up with defining honour killing separately. Similarly we have social boycott system in rural parts where inter caste marriages are not viewed in proper light. Again linked to caste divide , these needs to be curbed and proper education and awareness is key to deal with this.
Other than above mentioned evils there are evils like child marriage (in some communities) , widow issues, divorce issues which needs to be answered.

Interesting hub. I think the way of thinking is too ingrained in India for social evils to be easily eradicated. India is a wonderful country.
India is a mix of different things. But it is slowly gaining ground and getting better, albeit slowly. Good hub!
very good ur a good indian
Caste divide and religious divide were not seen in ancient India. When the Aryans entered India, they divided the society into different classes just to ensure their existence in India. Alongwith muslims, religious divide came to India. These divides are all fabricated by selfish elements to ensure their places in India. But they are all only a minor chunk of Indian society. If we keep going with our ancient traditions, they too will fall in line.
It is a pity that those who advocated caste and religious divides previously has switched over to protecting the affected people. It was necessary for them in ancient India. But it harms them in modern India. But we Indians should never let them reap the harvest in the name of protecting those affected. They created the division and they only have to reap the consequences.
India is a country full of colorful culture but yes there are biases, prejudice and evils that have been seeded from long time and are still there. They can only be diminished if people start to think positively and broadly.

I have visited India several times and despite all its problems it is still a land of beautiful landscapes and amazing people. Your hub rightly points out that progress shouldn't be measured in economic success and prosperity. It will take a long time to drive out the dowry, the caste system and to firmly instate equality for females. This is work that needs to be done and putting aside it phenomenal financial success Indians have a long way to go before they can claim that their country has dealt with children's rights, women's rights and abolished the caste system. India has a long journey ahead of her. The we support these reforms there are people in India who do not want social progress which makes the journey to equality and justice for so many indians a very difficult one. A beautiful hub.
Thanks pisean282311 for your hub about pressing social issues in India. India is one of my favorite countries and I think the social problems will be solved as more and more bright energetic Indian citizens think the way you do.
I ALSO REALLY THINK THAT ALL OF THESE EVILD IN INDIA SHOULD BE DIMINISHED OR ELSE IT WOULDNT BE TOO GOOD!
it is all right about evils
it si unhuman to kill a girl alive.values must be tought in schools. in country like india some sringent law is required
A good hub. Education and women's empowerment, these two elements are well capable to change the image of India for good. Every country has it's own problems. I am proud to be an Indian.

P.sir we have so much in common, all the issues you highlighted here are all my own pressing issues but i will talk about this honor killing b/cos i just did a hub about it.It is inhuman the way most religion, culture and people respond to social issues like relationship b4 marriage.
What is HONOR KILLING?
As a Christian,we are thought to love one another and as well to forgive one another, this applies to Muslims too and i know that Hindus accommodates same LOVE and FORGIVENESS so what is the honor in killing someone for an issue which is not beyond FORGIVENESS?
Thanks for this Hub and more crease to your elbow.
