Social Evils In India

Updated on March 7, 2020

I am an proud India. Proud of its rich culture and heritage. Proud of being one of oldest civilization. Proud of being born in country which has so many languages , religion , communities under same umbrella called India.

Proud of its founding fathers who made such a wonderful constitution which gives right to all its citizens to live at respectful life with dignity.

But at sametime , I an rational Indian. As rational thinking India I would like few things to change in India for betterment of India.

These are social evils and the faster it changes the better nation would become :

Dowry :

It has been around 40 years when law prohibiting dowry came into existence in India. But unfortunately the evil doesnot seem to die. Dowry deaths in India are still reported in thousands and what is more shocking is that many of such deaths are reported from family who are supposed to be educated. What I call as 'Developed Skills to earn but forgot to grow as human' class.

Have already written on dowry and wont get into much detail in this hub about it. But dowry needs to be eradicated from society and these needs major social change in how we perceive marriages in some parts of country.

Caste Divide :

For those living in urban city and wonder that caste issue is non issue today must read report published recently by an NGO on progressive state like gujarat. 93% of so called lower caste felt discrimination of basis of caste. Now one can imagine what situations might be in other parts of India ,if state which is economically , industrially developed state like gujarat has such pathetic stats.

Gender Bias :

Again whensoever there is debate on it , we always claim that status of woman in India is perfectly alright with woman getting the right kind of treatment. But unfortunately who reports states otherwise. According to who , majority of woman is subcontinent are mal nutrized. Their health concerns are often neglected.

Progress of any country is judged not just by numbers of gdp or gold reserves or missile technology but also about how woman and children are treated and nurtured. We want truely progressive India where woman are treated equally in all respects.

Crime against woman are on rise , number of woman getting married at barely 18 is half of numbers . These all has to be changed.

It is well published report which states that in last 20 years , 2 million female fetus were killed!!!!!!!. It shame that in country where woman power is worshipped in name of paravati and our icons include laxmi bai such things fail to get eradicated.

Honour Killing :

Well though limited to very few parts of India , honour killing still takes lives of hundred of couple every year. It good to know that government of India is coming up with defining honour killing separately. Similarly we have social boycott system in rural parts where inter caste marriages are not viewed in proper light. Again linked to caste divide , these needs to be curbed and proper education and awareness is key to deal with this.

Other than above mentioned evils there are evils like child marriage (in some communities) , widow issues, divorce issues which needs to be answered.
