Top Ten Failed State -2010 (Failed State Index)

Nonprofit research & educational organization , Fund For Peace published failed state Index every year. The 2010 list of failed state is out with Norway being bottom most while Somalia tops the list.

In failed state Index , the lower the rank , better placed is country while higher the rank , the country is on higher scale of failed state.

Failed state Index is based on number of criteria . Some of important ones are central government's lack of control over its territory , crime rate , corruption in the system , number of refugees , economic conditions , population compelled to move to other place.

Here is list of ten nations which top the failed state Index.

1) Somalia :

Somalia featured in most unstable country list also. It tops failed state list for third consecutive time. Somalia's pirates have become problem for all countries while civil war has displaced thousands of people.

2) Chad :

Republic of chad is landlocked African country. Chad has been facing humanitarian crisis. Refugees from Sudan , central African republic and own internally displaced people make half an million. United nation is highly concerned about the matter.

3) Sudan :

Largest country in Africa and Arab world , Sudan is facing civil war in darfur region of Sudan. This civil war had effected its neighbour chad and central African republic too.

4) Zimbabwe :

Facing worst humanitarian crisis since independence Zimbabwe stands 4th in the list of failed state. It has hard currency shortage and hyperinflation.

5) Democratic Republic of the Congo :

The fifth in the list is democratic republic of Congo which is again in Africa. It is one of most corrupted nations in the world.

6) Afghanistan :

Lot has been written , read and published about Afghanistan , that there is not much to write about it.How would Afghanistan be , once USA and NATO are gone is what remains to be seen. Would it be taken back by Taliban?. Would karzai be able to get rid of corrupted system ?. Well fingers are crossed and world is watching.

7) Iraq :

USA invaded Iraq and the war resulted in death of 1 lakh people with usa contributing to 33% causalities. With invasion , al queda tried to take advantage of situation and has been relatively successful in creating its team. We see suicide attacks frequently in Iraq. With usa working on pulling out , with Iraq see ethnic violence ,civil war ?. Well only time will tell.

8) Central African Republic :

In 2006 , CAR saw widespread violence in northern region with government taking on rebels. Thousands flee and took shelter in chad . Government was accused on human rights violation with systematic killing of people supporting rebels.

9) Guinea :

Again an African country , guinea ranks ninth in the list of failed state.One of poorest countries in the world guinea after independence from France has had autocratic rulers.

10) Pakistan :

Pakistan is only country in top ten list which has nuclear weapon. Pakistan was formed by partition of India in 1947. Though founder of Pakistan was firm believer of institutes and democracy , soon Pakistan was taken over by military ruler. Pakistan has since then had few years of democracy followed by long years of military rule.

Pakistan is fighting battle with Pakistan Taliban . While it has had successful operation in swat and is involved in military campaign in south waziristan , USA is keen to see Pakistan start operation in north waziristan too. South Punjab is another place where Taliban and extremism is believed to have found home.

The positives which Pakistan has had in last year has been assertive judiciary , military's operation against Taliban and parliament trying to strengthen democracy.
